Low back pain (LBP) is the fifth most common reason for physician visits, affecting nearly

60-80% of people throughout their lifetime. Common sources of your back pain could be Herniation, Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis, Sciatica and strains.  Whether you have a chronic nagging pain or if you have recently experienced a strain or are in acute sharp pain, we can help!

WAV PT Diagnosing and Evaluating Back Pain

With Direct Access to Physical Therapy care in California, you can start by seeing Dr. Parrish to help diagnose and evaluate your back pain. Depending on your insurance provider, you may have to obtain a referral from your PCP to continue sessions for your plan of care.  We are here for you every step of the way to get you going on that pain relief track.

In some acute situations, Dr. Parrish may recommend you see your primary care physician to receive an X Ray or an MRI to diagnose your low back pain.   You will then receive a report that has a lot of big word medical jargon that can be overwhelming and unnerving!  Bring in your X Ray or MRI report, where Dr. Parrish can look over the report together with you to decode the information and come up with a treatment plan to get you out of pain and keep you out of pain.

Treating the Cause, Not Just Chasing Symptoms

For example, with Low Back Pain and Sciatica, we first determine what is causing the pain or neurological symptoms.  This will include an extensive evaluation taking in to consideration your history, past injuries, and lifestyle as well as muscle testing, range of motion testing, and a variety of special tests to discern the underlying cause.

Together we will develop a Plan of Care that will address the underlying dysfunction, correct muscle and joint imbalances, and reduce the chronic tension that exists.

This is done with Manual Therapy including soft tissue manipulation as well as joint manipulation to rebalance and restore mobility along with a comprehensive and unique Therapeutic Exercise program including the GYROTONIC® Method to allow your body to become stronger and function more optimally now and in years to come, changing the way you move and exercise. The overall goal is not only to reduce and eliminate pain, but to correct patterns to reduce the chance of recurrence.
