Migraines and Chronic Headache Cycles:
There are a variety of different types of headaches with the most common being:
Migraine is a chronic, episodic primary headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It's often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with your daily activities.
In particular, the Cervicogenic headache is a common cause of a chronic headache that is often misdiagnosed. The presenting features can be complex and similar to other headache syndromes that are encountered daily. The main symptoms of a cervicogenic headache are a combination of pain that radiates from the back of the head around one side and to the front of the head along with diffuse shoulder and arm pain. Range of motion in the neck is reduced, and pain is relieved with anesthetic blockades.
According to the Mayo Clinic, a tension headache is generally a diffuse, mild to moderate pain in your head that's often described as feeling like a tight band around your head. A tension headache (tension-type headache) is the most common type of headache, and yet its causes aren't well-understood.
